The short history of the group

The activities of BIOT began in the town of Huétor-Vega, in the metropolitan area of Granada, where still stands part of the infrastructure of the company. The last three years the R&D activities have been taken place in the building BIC, the European Business Innovation Centre of the Technology Park of Health Sciences of Granada.

The location of the company in BIC Granada gives a boost to the initiative of any project to achieve scale and strength, due to the synergies in an excellent work environment. Remarkable progress on the number of personal staff and on research activities with researchers from the University of Granada has led to significant achievements. The most notable is the Award of Nutrition and Health issued by the Caja Rural de Granada. This prize was awarded in recognition of the results achieved on the immune response ingesting probiotic bacteria in commercialized dairy products, and the high practical application and ability to transfer knowledge during the investigation.

Since then, there has been a change in the organizational structure and in the legal form to create a technology-based company Biotgensystem Ltd, a primarily consulting company offering services in the areas of management of R&D and knowledge.

In turn using Biotgensystem Ltd as a parent company and together with Dr. Jesús González López, professor of microbiology and director of the group of environmental microbiology and technology of the Institute of Water Research at the University of Granada, and with lecturer and researcher in the field of environmental microbiology Dr. María Victoria Martínez Toledo, the group decided to create organization called Biotmicrogen Ltd, innovative and technology-based company and spin-off, commited to turn the achieved results into products, while at the same time broaden and diversify business activities by creating and transferring new knowledge.

This is how the key stage of development and business expansion begins with the participation of mentioned university professors as shareholders. Subsequently, this organization decides to address the formation of two new companies: Energygen Ltd and Microgenambiental Ltd.

Energygen Ltd has a headquarter in Jaen, with participating shareholder Dr. Gerardo Álvarez de Cienfuegos López, professor of microbiology at the University of Jaen. The main objective of this company is the use of microbial technologies for renewable energy production, through design and optimization of bioprocesses in which different bacteria act as bioreactors, using different substrates, mainly waste, as sources.

Microgenambiental Ltd was established in Almería, with shareholder professors from the University of Almería, the Department of Marketing and Business Research. The company is dedicated to create biotechnological solutions for the food industry, particularly relevant for the economy of Andalucía and for the environmental sector.
